Cardiac Care Unit (CCU)

About

The Cardiac Care Unit is a 7-bed inpatient unit with all private rooms, highly specialized unit staffed and equipped to care for patients with serious cardiology conditions that require advanced monitoring and or interventions. The CCU multidisciplinary health care team will begin working with you and your loved one as soon as they arrive on our unit. You will be introduced to your loved one’s care providers and have an orientation to the unit and our general routines.

Patient Information

The Cardiac Care Unit is a 7-bed inpatient unit with all private rooms, highly specialized unit staffed and equipped to care for patients with serious cardiology conditions that require advanced monitoring and or interventions. The CCU multidisciplinary health care team will begin working with you and your loved one as soon as they arrive on our unit. You will be introduced to your loved one’s care providers and have an orientation to the unit and our general routines.

The multidisciplinary CCU team, including cardiologists, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, dieticians, social workers and other allied health professionals that work collaboratively to provide excellence and high quality patient and family centered care.

Having a family member in the CCU can be an overwhelming experience for patients and families. We welcome all of your questions and concerns and there are a variety of support resources available to meet you and your loved one’s needs. We encourage you to speak to member of your health care team or a social worker.

Hand washing is required upon entry and exit of the CCU.

Anyone with a fever, cough, runny nose, vomiting, diarrhea, or a communicable disease (like chickenpox) should not visit our unit.

Please bring personal care items such as a toothbrush and all medications if not already done. Good shoes or slippers.

The Cardiac Care Unit is located on the fourth floor of the health centre. To navigate from the Main entrance:

  • Follow the Blue Navigation Line to the Main (Blue) elevators
  • Take the elevator to the fourth floor
  • Exit the elevator turn right and proceed through the double doors
  • Proceed straight through the link following signage for Cardiac Care Unit
  • The unit will be on your right

Upon discharge you will be given instructions and educational materials on the medications that are new to you since being admitted to the hospital.

If you had a procedure such as an angiogram/angioplasty you will receive detailed instructions and educational material for your aftercare including activity level, nutrition, dressing care and follow up instructions.

Step-by-step Directions

Street: Gallie Court

Travelling on Georgian Drive you will pass Georgian College and TURN RIGHT into the third entrance at Gallie Court.  After the stop sign, proceed FORWARD and TURN RIGHT into RVH’s Main road entrance.

  • You will see Rotary Place on your right

Parking: Main

Proceed FORWARD through RVH’s Main road entrance. RVH’s Main Parking lot can be found ON YOUR RIGHT.

  • You will see Rotary Place followed by parking gates

Entrance: Main

Enter RVH’s Main building entrance and FOLLOW the Blue Navigation Line to the Main (blue) elevators.

  • You will pass Café Royale on your right

Elevator: Main (Blue)

Take the Main (Blue) elevators to LEVEL 4.

Department: Cardiac Care Unit

From the elevator TURN RIGHT and continue along the hallway. TURN RIGHT down the first hallway and proceed FORWARD through the double doors. CCU’s entrance is STRAIGHT AHEAD.
