Starting July 2025, RVH will be launching Honouring Indigenous Identity in Healthcare, which marks a meaningful step forward in supporting equity, visibility, and healing for Indigenous patients.
This change means all patients registering at RVH will be asked if they wish to self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) and if they would like to be connected with the Indigenous Patient Services (IPS) team.
This change is not just about a new question at registration, it’s about honouring Indigenous identity, building stronger relationships, and ensuring every patient receives care that respects who they are.
For those who choose to be connected, the IPS team offers compassionate, culturally grounded support throughout their care journey. This approach recognizes the importance of creating a healthcare experience where Indigenous patients feel seen, respected, and supported in ways that are meaningful to them.
Honouring Indigenous Identity in Healthcare demonstrates RVH’s continued commitment to building trust, addressing barriers to care, and improving health outcomes through culturally safer practices for Indigenous patients that come through our doors.
