Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) is currently experiencing technical issues impacting the health centre’s information and communication system.

Earlier today, a power supply failure in RVH’s data centre resulted in a shutdown and ongoing disruption of many of our information technology services, impacting access to information and communication, such as email, the phone system and health information system.

RVH quickly enacted its ‘downtime protocols’ which includes deployment of radios throughout the facility and introduction of manual processes,” says Janice Skot, RVH president and CEO. “RVH has very well defined policies and procedures in place in the event of disruptions to the network and these have been implemented including a manual process for patient’s medical records. We continue to closely monitor the situation with the focus remaining on the safety of our patients. Another update will be provided as soon as more information is available.”

The malfunction resulted in some service delays and extended wait times. Urgent emergency services, including surgeries, are not impacted by the system disruptions. Staff have been redeployed to the Emergency Department to assist with triage and registration.

Although the systems are being restored, some disruptions continue to occur. The RVH team is working with appropriate vendors although we do not have a confirmed time for system restoration.
