The holiday season started early for one Barrie man as Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s (RVH) Auxiliary presented him with the winning ticket in its inaugural 50/50 community draw.

A cheque for $36,695 was safety awarded to Leo Bujold on December 4.

“It feels great to win! When I saw RVH calling, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked up the phone, but I certainly didn’t expect this,” says Bujold.

Funds raised from the RVH Auxiliary 50/50 community draw support the Auxiliary’s $5 million pledge to RVH’s Moments Matter campaign and will go towards areas of care such as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

“The community has always rallied around RVH, and their support of this new initiative was no different. We are thrilled that we are able to raise money for patient care here at RVH, while also engaging the community and helping to brighten someone’s holiday,” says Lise McCourt, RVH Auxiliary president.

With the success of the inaugural community 50/50 lottery, the Auxiliary plans to add regular community draws into their ongoing fundraising activities, with tickets going on sale for the next 50/50 draw starting on December 14, 2020.
