Space is limited to 30 students
per school group (pizza lunch will be included)
During this session, the students learn through both didactic and interactive presentations led by a dynamic team of experts including a physician, paramedic, police officer, nurses, and a survivor who will share the inspirational story of her life, both before, and after, a devastating accident. Students will also tour parts of the Health Centre, such as the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit, with a focus on the clinical care of trauma patients.
This program has been designed to demonstrate how high-risk behaviors can impact and change lives forever. Students who participate in the program leave knowing that they have the power to make responsible choices and the knowledge to understand the potential consequences of poor choices.
The program also exposes students to the path of a trauma patient, from the time a 9-1-1 call is placed, through the ambulance transfer to the Emergency Department, the life-saving measures that may be required, the elements of intensive hospital care, and the early aspects of rehabilitation.
