This week RVH is officially recognizing our incredibly dedicated nurses during National Nurses’ Week, May 10-16. On behalf of our staff, physicians and volunteers – and especially our patients – we thank them for their ongoing and tireless commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

This week we virtually celebrate the 1,417 nurses working at RVH. That impressive number includes 843 Registered Nurses (RN); 447 Registered Practical Nurses; 65 Resource Nurses; 21 Clinical Nurse Educators; 17 Nurse Practitioners; nine ICU Registered Nurses; four RN Anesthesia Assistants; three Graduate Nurses; three RN First Assists, two Nurse Coordinators; two Clinical Nurse Specialists and one Graduate RPN. Our nurses work around the clock in all areas of the health centre with many in leadership roles.

The theme of Nursing Week is #WeAnswerTheCall, and the nursing team at RVH most definitely ‘answers the call’, particularly over the past year during this global pandemic. We also recognize that at RVH every member of TEAM RVH, no matter what their role, is working together to support one another and ensure we continue to safely respond to this pandemic.

The pandemic has brought to light the courage, commitment and compassion that nurses demonstrate every day, highlighting the critical role nurses play in our healthcare system and in our community.

Today, the RVH Foundation is launching its “In Honour of Nurses” campaign. The funds raised will support the expansion of RVH’s Intensive Care Unit. Long-time, generous, donor Jane Brown Jackson will match all funds raised up to $25,000 to honour the vital role nurses play. Donations can be made at www.RVHHero.ca.
