Addiction Services

Addiction Services provides a non-medical withdrawal management service to clients requiring rehabilitation around an addiction or chemical dependency. It is a service available to anyone over the age of 16 who is intoxicated, in withdrawal or in a crisis due to the use of alcohol and/or other mood altering substances. We attempt to assist our clients in managing withdrawal in a safe, caring, non-threatening, and empathetic environment. We assist our clients in their withdrawal from:

  • benzodiazepines
  • inhalants
  • narcotics
  • hallucinogens
  • amphetamines
  • cocaine
  • over-the-counter medications
  • alcohol

Addiction Services

  • Helps individuals begin their recovery in a safe health care environment
  • Provides an immediate and nurturing support system throughout the withdrawal process, increasing the chances for recovery
  • Encourages personal responsibility and accountability in planning change throughout the use of individual and group counseling sessions
  • Offers pre-treatment services, which include education about substance abuse, problem identification, discharge planning and referral to appropriate support services
  • Provides individuals with choices and alternatives for their personal plan for recovery

Referral Instructions
While we prefer that the individual seeking help call us directly themselves, we do accept referrals from physicians, social service agencies, employers, the police, or from concerned family and friends. A referral to Addiction Services may be made at any time of the day or night, seven days a week.

Note: Addiction Services is not located within the Royal Victoria Hospital.
