RVH David Blenkarn Spirit Award

Do you know someone who has contributed in an extraordinary way to the Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation? Someone who has demonstrated remarkable spirit, loyalty and outstanding commitment to RVH by supporting the Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation?

Now’s your chance to nominate them for the 1st Annual RVH David Blenkarn Spirit Award.

The prestigious award is named as a tribute to David Blenkarn, a long-time, dedicated friend to RVH. As a former chairperson of both the RVH Board of Directors and Foundation, and current chair of the hospital’s ‘I Believe’ capital campaign, Blenkarn is well-known for his dynamic and giving spirit and as an exceptional leader and volunteer.

“In his many roles David has inspired other volunteers, staff, physicians – indeed the entire community – to believe in Royal Victoria Hospital; to nurture and support the hospital in its pursuit of safe, quality, accessible care,” says Janice Skot, RVH President and CEO. “Through his passion, commitment and vision, David made ‘believers’ out of everyone he comes in contact with.”

The RVH David Blenkarn Spirit Award will be given to a person, couple or organization in Simcoe Muskoka as a way to recognize ‘ordinary people who do extraordinary things’ in support of the RVH Foundation -- much like Blenkarn himself.

“For almost 25 years David Blenkarn has devoted himself to improving healthcare in our region by being actively involved with the RVH Foundation. There are many other remarkable individuals and organizations who have also demonstrated outstanding support of RVH and we’re anxious to recognize them with this prestigious award,” says Don Pratt, Chair, RVH Foundation Board of Directors. “

All nominees for the award should have demonstrated a remarkable contribution to the Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation. If the nominee is a current, retired or former staff member or physician, their contribution and commitment must be demonstrably above and beyond the requirements of their position with the hospital.

Nomination packages for the award must include a completed nomination form, a cover letter from the nominator, an overall statement recommending the nominee, a resume detailing the nominee’s merits and activities outside their professional life, as well as two to five letters of additional support.

Nominations must be submitted prior to July 16, 2010. The award recipient will be recognized at the annual Royal Victoria Society dinner on September 22, 2010.
