June 8, 2010 - Jon Babulic has been elected Chair of the Royal Victoria Hospital Board of Directors. Babulic, who is the Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Barrie, was elected for a two-year term at the RVH Annual General Meeting held June 8, 2010.
Babulic has been a member of the RVH Board of Directors since 2002, most recently serving as vice-chair of the board. He is also actively involved in the community with organizations such as the Boy Scouts of Canada, the United Way, Trout Unlimited Canada, and was most recently chosen as a member of the Laurentian University Board of Governors.
“Jon is truly committed to seeing RVH reach its maximum potential,” says Steve Blanchet, outgoing chair, RVH Board of Directors. “Jon’s experience in municipal affairs, coupled with his community commitment, leadership skills and dedication to this hospital, are tremendous attributes he brings to the role of Chair. RVH is a complex, growing organization that is fortunate to have Jon leading the board for the next two years.”
In addition to Babulic’s new position, Reverend Rick Horst has become the new vice chair of RVH’s Board of Directors after having served in many roles since joining the board in 2007, including Chair of the Performance and Quality Committee, Chair of the Audit Committee and Treasurer. Reverend Horst, a senior minister at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Barrie, is also a resident of Orillia and Bracebridge, giving him a unique perspective on the needs of RVH’s regional patients.
“The critical piece of continuing to build and maintain a motivated and strategic hospital board is to find people who selflessly give all their experience and expertise toward the betterment of the hospital,” says Janice Skot, RVH President and CEO. “Our board members each have a varied skill set and a unique perspective that benefits our hospital. We have lawyers, educators, community leaders, entrepreneurs, physicians and municipal leaders that comprise the RVH board – the diversity of experience is exceptional.”
In addition to approving updated bylaws, corporation members ratified the appointment of medical staff representatives. Dr. Mitch Whyne continues as a board member, now assuming the position of Medical Staff President. Taking over the role of Vice President, Medical Staff will be Dr. Keith Morley.
As governors of the hospital, the volunteer-based Board of Directors not only monitors the hospital’s performance standards and financial accountability, but ensures that RVH delivers on its strategic plan, mission, vision and values. Steve Blanchet, President and co-owner of CSR Cosmetic Solutions of Barrie, will remain on the RVH board as past chair.
September 30, 2009 - Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) has appointed two new members to its Board of Directors. After a region-wide recruitment effort, Greg Bell and Kirsten Parker have been selected to fill the two vacancies on RVH’s Board.
Kirsten Parker, a lifelong educator, has both a Doctor of Education and a Bachelor of Education, as well as a Masters degree in biophysics. She has served as a teacher, principal, vice-principal and superintendent with the Simcoe County District School Board, and is currently the Director of Diversity Strategy and of Student Success Learning to 18 Implementation, Training and Evaluation for the Ministry of Education.
A resident of Barrie, Parker has played a vital role in many community organizations including the Gryphon Theatre, of which she was the past President and former Board member; former Midland Rotary Club member; former Board member of the YM/YWCA and ambassador for the City of Barrie. Parker is also the founding Co-Chair of the Barrie Montessori School.
Greg Bell, a resident of Oro-Medonte, founded the consumer electronic business, Logitech Electronics Inc. (lei), in 1988. After selling the business once and then re-purchasing it from Circuit City in 2007, Bell currently serves in the capacity of CEO in Canada and in Hong Kong for lei Global Sourcing Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary. His areas of business expertise include retail, global vendor requirement guidelines, distribution, retail packaging, product development and approvals, factory audits and social compliance audits.
Bell is an active member of his community, having served on the boards of the Barrie YMCA and the Kempenfelt Bay School in Barrie, as well as being a former member of the Huronia Rotary Club of Barrie.
Bell and Parker join three other new Board members who were elected in June, including Shari Elliott, a Barrie lawyer; Margaret Tervit, President of the RVH Auxiliary, and Dr. Mitch Whyne, an RVH Emergency Department physician.
“Our community should be very confident in the caliber of RVH’s new Board members,” says Steve Blanchet, chair. “All our directors represent a broad base of knowledge and bring varied experience to the governance of this exceptional organization. The unique backgrounds of our directors are valuable assets to the hospital as we move forward during this exciting time in RVH’s history.”
As governors of the hospital, the volunteer-based Board of Directors not only monitors the hospital’s performance standards and financial accountability, but ensures that RVH delivers on its strategic plan, mission, vision and values. Steve Blanchet, the Board’s chair, was unanimously elected for a second two-term year as Chair this past June. Blanchet is the President and co-owner of CSR Cosmetic Solutions of Barrie.
June 18, 2009 - Steve Blanchet has been elected for a second year as Chair of Royal Victoria Hospital’s Board of Directors. Blanchet, President and co-owner of CSR Cosmetic Solutions was unanimously elected by the Board of Directors, for the second of a possible two-year term as Chair, at RVH’s Annual General Meeting on June 18th.
Also elected for another term at the AGM were board members Sab Ravalli, and Jon Babulic, vice-chair. Following a comprehensive recruitment process across the region, Shari Elliott also joins the RVH Board of Directors. Ms. Elliott, a Barrie lawyer and Oro-Medonte resident, was elected following a nomination put forward by the board’s Governance Committee.
The RVH board will also see changes to its medical and volunteer leadership as Margaret Tervit becomes a director by virtue of her position as the new President of the RVH Auxiliary. Emergency Department physician Dr. Mitch Whyne joins the board as vice-president of the Medical Staff.
They join board members Harry Hughes, Helen Coutts, Michael Smith, Robert Hall, Barry Green, Rick Horst and Dr. Scott Good. Recruitment is continuing to fill the two vacancies that remain on the board.
“Our community should be very confident in the caliber of the hospital’s directors,” says Steve Blanchet, chair. “They are all highly-skilled and represent a very broad base of knowledge. They are also passionate about governing an organization as diverse and exceptional as RVH. We are well-positioned to continue to move the organization forward during this exciting time in RVH’s history.”
At the Annual General Meeting the board also paid tribute to Scott Elliott, President of Sarjeant Fuels. The former Chair is leaving the board, having spent the past eight years as a dynamic and dedicated director. Elliott will continue to serve Royal Victoria Hospital and his community, as a director on the RVH Foundation Board.
As governors of the hospital, the volunteer board directors not only monitor the hospital’s performance standards and financial accountability, but ensure that RVH delivers on its strategic plan, mission, vision and values.
